The Universe is big and almost impossible to comprehend. In this show, astronomers from the University of Groningen will take you on a journey to the farthest reaches of space. We will start on Earth, looking up at the night sky, before taking off. We will visit the planets of the Solar System, and travel to faraway stars and galaxies beyond the Milky Way.

On 25 & 26 September, we’re bringing Oktoberfest to DOT and kicking off the party season in true German style. Because when we do something, we do it properly!

From 3.00 pm, the party kicks off with long beer tables, hits played by a live DJ, litres of beer served in oversized mugs, various games and other entertainment. All this takes place under a large covered marquee, to ensure that the typical Dutch weather won’t spoil our party.

Embark on a remarkable journey through the planets of our solar system with DOT Live Planetarium: Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. A student from the University of Groningen, specialising in astronomy, will guide you in exploring our extraordinary neighbours in space.

From the red landscapes of Mars to the impressive rings of Saturn, you’ll discover how these planets were formed, what makes them unique, and what we currently know about the worlds surrounding us. Thanks to the Dome’s large screen, you’ll feel as if you are truly immersed in the journey.

This is not an ordinary film; the presentation is live. You will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and satisfy your curiosity. After the show, there will be a Q&A session where you can inquire about anything you’ve always wanted to know about planets, stars, and the universe.

We’re kicking off the Halloween weekend with Backrooms, a nerve-wracking psychological horror film by the young directing prodigy Kane Parsons, based on the viral internet phenomenon.

Every star has a life story. We begin inside vast stellar nurseries, where clouds of gas and dust collapse to form newborn stars and planetary systems. From there, we travel to our own Sun to look beneath its surface, explore nuclear fusion and the delicate balance that keeps a star shining, and witness the magnetic activity, sunspots and enormous flares of the solar cycle.
